Lisa Comer is a devoted wife, mother and life-long resident of Lexington County. Family has been a cornerstone of her life from a very young age. Lisa is the oldest daughter of Weldon and the late Karen Benton, who instilled in her the belief that anything is possible with hard work and dedication. Her father is a retired Battalion Chief with the City of Columbia Fire Department and her mother retired from Lexington School District #2 as a Food Service Manager. Lisa’s parents worked tirelessly to provide for all the wants and needs of Lisa and her younger sister, Nikki Daniels. Lisa’s parents serve as a perfect example to her children that diligent work and commitment is key to success.
Lisa and her husband, Stuart, were high school sweethearts and in 2015 they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Lisa and Stuart are the proud parents of three daughters and one son, Brittany, Ashlyn, Christen and Peyton. These two loving parents work to provide the best life possible for their children, and impart the ethics and values to give them fulfilling and productive futures.
In the early years of Lisa and Stuart’s marriage, she was a stay at home mom to her three daughters and he worked for a printing company. It was important to Lisa and Stuart that their daughters had the best start possible for their early years. As their youngest daughter approached school age, Lisa decided to go back to school and continue her education. It was always her dream to have a career within the judicial system. Lisa decided to become a paralegal, so she attended Midlands Technical College where she received an Associate Degree in Public Service (Legal Assistant/Paralegal Studies) in 2001. Soon after graduation, Lisa began working as a paralegal at Craig Law Firm and Stuart decided to become a self-employed residential contractor. After three years of dealing with a variety of types cases, she moved over to work at Harvey, Casterline & Vallini where she worked on relocation closings.
In 2008, Stuart and Lisa welcomed their son, Peyton, and Lisa took a break from her job to stay home with him. In May, 2009, Lisa accepted a part time position with the Lexington County Clerk of Court’s office as the Common Pleas Judgment Clerk. It was then that Lisa realized she had found a career that she was truly passionate about. Lisa’s hard work and dedication got her a promotion to a full-time position after only a month of working for the office. Lisa’s steady rise continued when she was promoted in November 2009 to the Non Jury Clerk/Back up Supervisor for Common Pleas. The position was a perfect fit for Lisa, as it allowed her to participate in the courtroom.
In 2013, Lisa was offered and accepted the position of Deputy Clerk for Common Pleas in the Aiken County Clerk of Court’s office. This job presented a new set of challenges that allowed Lisa to learn even more of the day to day operations of the court system.
Lisa loves working in the Clerk of Court’s office and enjoys the interacting with everyone in the courthouse from the judges to the public. She has been blessed to find a career that is her true passion, and is prepared for the next step in this journey. Lisa has proven herself through her work and perseverance, and she deserves to be your next Clerk of Court here in Lexington County.
